Peer-Led Interventions
The role of peer-led interventions for adolescent alcohol problems is gaining some attention in the treatment sphere. This derives from the theory that young people learn from each other, provide positive role models and have credibility among other young people. Although relatively few in number to date, and limited by selection bias and other methodological issues, studies of peer led interventions exploring alcohol use do suggest a lower odds of alcohol use among those in peer-led groups when compared to control groups. Further research is needed to clarify whether there is a role for this form of intervention for adolescent alcohol problems.
